Renovation of the facade of the Vrhbosna Theological Seminary building started on February 15th, and the deadline for completion is September 30th this year.
The building of the Vrhbosna Theological Seminary is one of the most beautiful buildings in Sarajevo. It is 132 years old and is a national cultural monument. The last major renovation was after the last war in 1996, before the return of theologians from Bol on Brač, but the facade was not completely renovated.
The project is worth about 500,000 KM and it is planned to renovate the entire facade of the seminary and the church of St. Cyril and Methodius with the dome and part of the eastern facade. The funds were provided by Hungary Helps Agency, the Central State Office for Croats Abroad and the Municipality of Stari Grad.
Let us remind you that when the first diocesan graduates of the seminary gymnasium from Travnik reached theological studies, the first archbishop of Vrhbosna, the servant of God Josip Stadler, started the construction of the seminary in Sarajevo according to the project of Josip pl. Vancaš in the Italian Renaissance style. Part of the building was ready to move in as early as September 1st 1893, and as such was the first higher education institution in BiH by European standards.
