The town of Breza and the parish of the same name of St. Barbara celebrated their heavenly patroness on December 4th, and the Holy Mass was celebrated by the parish priest and dean of the Sutjeska deanery, Dr. venerable Pero Brkić. There were no concelebrants due to the coronavirus pandemic.
In the homily, venerable Brkić referred to the figure of the heavenly patroness of the parish - St. Barbara who is worshiped by the faithful for her loyalty, devotion and love for God. He said that “she opened her hands and heart to God”, and since she is the protector of miners - he added that “today the whole world is looking for light at the end of the tunnel” and in his homily he prayed for that light through the intercession of this saint.
Holy Mass celebration was animated by the parish choir, and at the end of the Holy Mass, the children were given gifts for St. Nicholas day which is two days after.
Believers prepared for the celebration of the patron saint with a novena.
This year, due to epidemiological measures, there was no gathering or joint lunch.
By the way, the religious community in this city has about 140 members, compared to 950 before 1992. Interestingly, this is the only parish in the Vrhbosna Archdiocese dedicated to St. Barbara.
