Sister Josipa Kata Ivkić celebrated her diamond jubilee


Sister Josipa Kata Ivkić, a nun of the Society of the Servant of Christ, celebrated on Saturday, August 29th, on the memorial day of the Martyrdom of St. John the Baptist, her diamond jubilee - 60 years of monasticism.

On that occasion, Holy Mass was celebrated in the monastery chapel in the parish of St. Joseph the worker in Slavonski Brod, where she lives with five other nuns, and was led by a local son, Father Marijan Zubak, a missionary of the Society of the Blood of Christ, together with the parish priest Mato Matasović. In his homily, Father Marijan thanked the celebrant for her perseverance in her vocation, for her love for God and man. He emphasized that he recognized in her the qualities of the Heavenly Mother because, like her, she knew how to notice the needs of people without a word and served them lovingly, just like the Lord.

Sister Josipa was born in 1937. in Vidovice near Orašje in Bosanska Posavina, a village known for its large number of spiritual vocations. At the age of 18 she went to a convent. She took her first vows in 1960., and her lifelong vows in 1966. She served in several places in Croatia, Austria and Germany, working mainly in the kitchen, and worked mostly in Slavonski Brod - for 43 years.
