The only parish in the Vrhbosna Archdiocese that has the Martyrdom of St. John the Baptist as a patron – Odžak, solemnly celebrated its patron saint on August 29th.
The Holy Mass was led by the parish priest of Derventa, rev. Marko Slišković in concelebration with 16 priests, among whom were the host parish priest and the dean of the Dobor deanery, venerable Jakov Filipović and the Plehan Guardian OFM Anto Tomas.
In the appropriate sermon, rev. Slišković said that in the face of the injustice done to this nobleman of God, it would be best to remain silent and be silent, but also St. John the Baptist is not a “quiet saint” and as God calls believers to raise their voices and their hearts before so many “Herods” and “Herodias”. “Let us agree with the liberating truth, leave the evil that gently embraces us to lead us to ruin, let our pride diminish, let our passions and greed dry up, let our hearts be offered to God on the golden platter of eternity, only like so, have we fulfilled and we are fulfilling John's mission”, concluded the parish priest of Derventa.
It is worth mentioning that the Holy Mass gathered about 800 believers and that the parishioners prepared for the patron with Triduum.
