Spiritual exercises for priests were held in the premises of the Vrhbosna Theological Seminary in Sarajevo and lasted from February 8th to 11th.
The organizer was the Archdiocese of Vrhbosna, and about 20 priests, led by Archbishop cardinal Vinko Puljić, participated. The leader was a Carmelite father Zvonko Martić.
In his introductory speech, father Martić explained that spiritual exercises are not “rest or laziness, but exercises of the spirit”. During the discussion, he spoke about the spiritual call and cited St. Paul and his conversion as an example, as well as St. Theresa of Avila.
On the second day of the spiritual exercises, the celebration in the theological chapel was led by the Cardinal, and the appropriate sermon was given by OFM Zvonko, who, among other things, reminded of Jesus’ encouragement from the Gospel: “Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven” (Matthew 6:1). Noting that two salaries cannot be received for the same work, he encouraged priests to always be aware of Christ’s call and to work for the kingdom of heaven.
