Spiritual renewal for priests and monks

Diocesan and monk priests of the Mostar-Duvno and Trebinje-Mrkan dioceses began their Lent procession with a spiritual renewal held on Ash Wednesday, March 2nd, in the Cathedral of Mary Mother of the Church in Mostar.

Those present were first greeted by the Diocesan Chancellor rev. Stipe Gale, and the appropriate discussion was held by the parish priest of Posušje and the dean of the Posušje deanery, OFM Mladen Vukšić. He spoke about the responsible use of time and priests and set Jesus Christ as an example. He also pointed to examples of responsible and irresponsible spending of priests’ time.

After the discussion, a penitential service followed and there was an opportunity for confession.

The Holy Mass was then led by the Bishop of Mostar-Duvno and the Apostolic Administrator of Trebinje-Mrkan, Msgr. Petar Palić. In his homily, Bishop Palić spoke about the connection between faith and heart. He called on priests to open their hearts to the call of God’s word, following the example of the Old Testament prophet Joel, who warns that the inner availability of the human heart is more important than external acts. Speaking about the Lenten message of Pope Francis, he wished that Lent “be blessed and help us to shine our priesthood in the Church with new shine.”

The Eucharist was preceded by the devotion of the Way of the Cross.
