Spring meeting of Croatian students in Rome

On the Sunday of the Good Shepherd, May 8th, in the Croatian Church of St. Jerome in Rome held a spring meeting of Croatian students.

The Eucharist was led by the spiritual carer of the Pontifical Croatian Institute St. Jerome and professor at Gregoriana, father Alan Modrić. In concelebration, with the rector of the Institute rev. Marko Đurin and Vice-Rector rev. Marko Škraba, there were about 20 other priests.

Since the spring meeting of Croatian students in Rome is organized every year with the celebration of St. Leopold Bogdan Mandić and Bl. Ivan Merz, it was father modrić’s homily that was imbued with thoughts about two great men of Croatian spirituality. Reflecting on Good Shepherd Sunday, the preacher said Jesus Christ is the model of true leadership. Speaking of the life path of Bl. Merz and St. Mandić, he encouraged those present that “the examples of these two of our holy compatriots be a lesson for our spiritual, concrete practical life, so that we can bring souls to God with mercy, love and forgiveness”. He also explained that studying and engaging in science should not be “corrupted by our careerism and selfishness, but enriched by deep and true faith”.

The Holy Mass was animated by the mixed choir Štorija from Rukavac, near Opatija, which later organized a short concert in the church.
