Name day of St. Anthony, under whose heavenly protection parish in Žepče is, gathered on June 13th more than 2,000 believers who came to pray the intercession of this saint.
The central Mass celebration, with the concelebration of 20 priests and the serving of two deacons, was preceded by Dr. Ilija Marković, Viceroy in the Vrhbosna Seminary.
After the introductory procession from the parish church to the outer altar, the parish priest said welcoming words to the gathered believers.
Before the final blessing, gratitude to God and priests that led the Holy mass was said by parish priest Stojčević.
In addition to the central Holy mass, on that day, two other Eucharistic celebrations were celebrated that were led by parish vicar at Žepče, rev. David Trujillo and rev. Marković.
It is particularly worth mentioning that the parishioners for the celebration of their patron were prepared through 13 Tuesdays, and then triduums when the Holy masses were led by the parish priest in Borovica, rev. Ivan Butum, parish priest in Breza dr. rev. Anto Ćosić and the dean of the Sarajevo Catholic Theology University, canon Dr. Darko Tomašević.
Especially impressive was a Holy mass on Wednesday, June 12th, when before the Eucharistic celebration there was a procession with the statue of St. Anthony around the church, in which several hundred believers took part, and the statue was carried by people dressed in folk costumes.
The faithful community in Žepče this year marks the 140th anniversary of the newly establishing of the parish. Until 1961, it’s patron was The exaltation of the Holy Cross, and since then it is under the heavenly protection of St. Anthony. Today there are 4 160 believers in this parish, and it is among the biggest parishes in the Vrhbosna Archdiocese.
