St. Nikola Tavelić celebratet in Kovačići

Feast of the first Croatian proclaimed saint, St. Nikola Tavelić, was solemnly celebrated on November 14th in his shrine at Kovačići in Sarajevo.

The solemn Holy Mass in the evening, concelebrated by several priests, including the Provincial of Bosna Srebrena, OFM Jozo Marinčić, was led by the Master of Theology at the Franciscan Theology in Sarajevo, OFM Danijel Nikolić.

In his sermon, OFM Daniel presented the most important stages of the life of St. Nikola and explained to the faithful how this saint can be of help to the faithful on their own path to holiness. “Christ was the inspiration of St. Nikola in his life, he literally followed him, following Jesus from today’s gospel: ‘If anyone will follow me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me’”, said the preacher.

The celebration of the Holy Mass was animated by the theologians under the direction of OFM Emanuel Josić.

By the way, in 1939 the Franciscans decided to build a new seminary and a large votive sanctuary of the then Blessed OFM Nikola Tavelić. For that purpose, they bought the football field of the SAŠK club. For only one year (1944/'45), the building also served as a seminary. After World War II, the communist authorities confiscated the building. Most of it has been returned, but to date there are problems with the Municipality in returning all property.
