Stadler's 176th birthday marked

On the occasion of the 176th birthday of Josip Stadler, on January 24th, a Mass celebration in the Sarajevo Cathedral was led by cardinal Vinko Puljić, the archbishop of Vrhbosna.

Four priests concelebrated, and the Sisters Servants of Little Jesus gathered from the communities operating in Sarajevo, the children of Stadler's Children’s home Egipat, the theologian’s community of Vrhbosna’s theologian seminary in Sarajevo, the Friends of Little Jesus, and parishioners from the Parish of Gromiljak and other believers.

At the beginning of the service, cardinal Puljić welcomed the congregation. Citing the reason for the celebration of this holy Mass - the birthday of the servant of God, Josip Stadler, who was born on the day of St. Francis of Sales, invited gathered people to pray that the first archbishop of Vrhbosna is to be proclaimed blessed and a saint.

The preaching was said by Msgr. Dr. Pavo Jurišić, the canon of Vrhbosna and the postulator of the cause of God’s servant Josip Stadler. He particularly emphasized Stadler’s values and characterized him as an apostle of love, faithful to his call of the shepherd. He also made a link to St. Francis of Sales, and that is the same love for God and the same concern for the salvation of souls.

“Stadler, like St. Francis says that everyone should live faithfully wherever they are, it is dangerous to have one's heart in one place and his task in another”, Msgr. Pavo said and pointed out that the Gospel was Stadler's strength.

The holy mass was animated by young people from Gromiljak led by s. Jelena Jovanović, and singing was conducted by theologians of Vrhbosna archdiocese, the Sisters of Little Jesus and the children from the Stadler Children's Home Egipat, while rev. Marko Stanušić, the cathedral organ player and head of the cathedral choir Josip Stadler, played.

After the communion prayer, all present believers gathered at the tomb of Archbishop Stadler and prayed for their own needs and intentions, and prayed for the proclamation of the blessed servant of God. The Eucharistic Celebration was preceded by the prayer of the Rosary with inspirational reflection on Archbishop Stadler.

Since the bishops of the Bishops' Conference of Bosnia and Herzegovina on September 1st 2018., sent a joint letter on the occasion of the proclamation of the Missionary Year at the beginning of October 2018. to the end of October 2019., and on that occasion prompted numerous missionary activities, wish of the sisters Servants of Little Jesus was to include with prayer of the Rosary for the mission, as well as to commemorate a great man for whom can also be said to have acted missionally.

Sisters said that celebrating someone after 176 years of birth, means to recall the God's plan of salvation, which God had with him, with the servant of God, Josip Stadler, choosing him for a special mission in the Church. Ever since the day of his birth and baptism on January 24th, 1843., and to his blessed death in 1918., this missionary thread extends.

All gathered recalled his birth and family with their prayers. They were thinking of Stadler, the missionary of his time in then missionary country of Bosnia, who through the many activities truly was followed by God's blessing and Providence in which he was endlessly confident.
