In Komušina and on the hill Kondžilo, the largest shrine of Our Lady in the Vrhbosna Archdiocese, on August 15th, the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary was solemnly celebrated. The Holy Mass was led by the Archbishop Coadjutor of Vrhbosna and Apostolic Administrator of the Military Ordinariate in BiH, Msgr. Tomo Vukšić.
At the solemn Eucharistic celebration with Msgr. Vukšić and the parish priest and guardian of the sanctuary, rev. Boris Salapić, about 15 priests concelebrated.
At the beginning of the homily, Msgr. Tomo recalled the resurrection of Jesus. “This truth of our faith is one of the most important. So important that, as we know, St. Paul writes in one place, ‘If Christ has not been resurrected, our faith is in vain’. In other words, translated into today’s dictionary here on Kondžilo- if Christ hasn’t resurrected, our faith is in vain, our prayers are in vain, everything we do in the form of devotion in honour of the Holy Trinity and the Blessed Virgin Mary is in vain”, said the preacher and added that by the grace of the Holy Trinity the Mother of God was exalted both in soul and body to heaven.
“Christ, says St. Paul, rose from the dead and as such is the first of the sleeping, the first of all the dead. Indeed, about man, ie Adam - death, about man, ie Christ - the resurrection from the dead. Because, as all in Adam die, also in Christ all will be resurrected, but each in his own order - first Christ, and then those who are in Christ! Among those that are Christ’s and follow him with their resurrection to heaven, first is Blessed Virgin Mary, first of all students of God, the first of all followers of Jesus - is the one who ascended to Heaven with soul and body. This is the faith that the Church professes from the earliest days of its existence”, explained the Archbishop Coadjutor of Vrhbosna.
In the continuation of the sermon, Msgr. Tomo explained to the faithful that unlike many saints, there are no powers of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the whole world. “They do not exist because she was taken up to heaven in body and soul (...) She, dear brothers and sisters, is taken to heaven being, except the mother of our Savior, the Mother of God as we honour her, at the same time the Mother of our hope. By being the Mother of God – behind us in history in time and place in the beginnings of our Christian faith and the history of salvation in the way of Jesus, she was ascended to Heaven with soul and body – she is in front of us. As the one that stands behind us, she is the safety of our faith, the Mother of our Savior and thus the Mother of the Church and His mystical Body and therefore the Mother of our faith, and because she is before us where we hope to come one day after her resurrection, she is the Mother of hope of the Church, the Mother of hope of each of us, hope of our eternal life”, pointed out Msgr. Tomo Vukšić.
After the Holy Mass, the faithful headed to the parish church with the image of Our Lady, which ended the official part of the celebration.
We remind you that in Komušina, in addition to the pilgrimage for the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, two more were held: one in the last Sunday of May as a pilgrimage of young people of the Vrhbosna Archdiocese and the other in late October as a pilgrimage of surrounding parishes.
In the ancient shrine of Our Lady of the Vrhbosna Archdiocese in Komušina, on the eve of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, on August 14th, the solemnly concelebrated Eucharistic celebration was led by Archbishop of Vrhbosna cardinal Vinko Puljić, who prayed the rosary in front of the image of Our Lady before the Holy Mass.
After the Holy Mass, a blessing of religious objects was arranged. This year’s celebration of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Komušina was preceded by a spiritual preparation through the novena.
