Sixth year in a row on the Palm Sunday in Sarajevo’s parish of Stup was held the Deanery Way of the Cross of the youth of the Sarajevo’s Deanery where more than 100 believers participated.
Same as previous years, this piety was organised by the parish of Assumption of Virgin Mary, Youth pastoral centre of Vrhbosna archdiocese and Catholic school centre Sveti Josip.
The way of the Cross was led by rev. Dražen Kustura, priest who is getting his masters degree in Rome and former vicar of parish Stup, with concelebration of the parish priest rev. Miroslav Ćavar and venerable Mladen Kalfić, chancellor of Vrhbosna archdiocese.
The piety started in front of the altar in the parish garden in Stup, after which the procession started the 10-kilometre-long walk through: Stup, Bare, Doglode, Otes and Azići. Through 14 stations of the Way of the Cross they thought about the last hours of Christ’s life. As individual stations were used yards of the parishioners who also offered refreshments for the participants.
Sister Lidija Kalfić edited a booklet with text of the Way of the Cross that was prayed, so all participants could follow the piety. Besides this the believers prayed Rosary between the stations.
Peak of the day was holy Mass in the monastery church of Carmelite nuns in Azići that was led by chancellor Kalfić in concelebration with parish priest Ćavar.
This Deanery Way of the Cross of the youth served as a sort of spiritual preparation for happenings in the Holy Week. Not only did the pilgrims piously participated in this devotion, but most of them approached the sacrament of reconciliation. The fact that rejoices is that there is still young people who are not ashamed to testify their religion publicly, but also older people who are ready to do this pilgrimage and that way give their sacrifice to the Saviour.
