The parish of Stolac was hit late in the evening on April 22nd by a strong earthquake of 6.1 degrees according to Richter, which had an epicentre 19 kilometres to the east.
The parish priest of the local religious community of St. Elijah the Prophet, OFM Ljubo Planinić, referring to the consequences, said that minor cracks appeared in the church on the inner walls, which he said to staticians and architects. He pointed out that the earthquake continued on April 23rd and 24th, when there was a 4.8 magnitude earthquake around 6:30 am. For security reasons, he sent the faithful home on the morning Holy Mass on Little Easter, and the Holy Mass during which the first communion was received by 25 children, six boys and 19 girls, was held at the outdoor altar.
“The worst is panic (...) An earthquake simply produces a state of insecurity that is difficult to get rid of. But, we pray to God and trust Him, so it will be as it is”, said the parish priest, thanking everyone who is interested in the situation in Stolac.
Let us remind you that one young person died as a result of the earthquake in this Herzegovina city when a rock fell on the family house, and considerable material damage was caused.
