On April 11th, at the local cemetery in the parish of the Name of Mary in Garevac near Modriča, Archbishop of Vrhbosna in peace cardinal Vinko Puljić blessed the monument dedicated to the fallen Croatian defenders of this religious community, as well as the surrounding places.
After the blessing, he gave a special address where he paid special attention to the three things that are the foundation of every human being: faith, life and homeland. “Many of our ancestors died for the faith, and the defenders laid down their lives”, he said, adding that “one cannot defend the homeland if one does not love life and does not sacrifice oneself”. “Only he who loves and defends life can love and defend his homeland”, the cardinal concluded, followed by a prayer for the deceased and the laying of wreaths and lighting of candles.
The Archbishop in peace then celebrated Holy Mass in the parish church, emphasizing in his homily that “the time of preparation for Easter should be closer to the great mystery” and that “our identity should be built on Christ's identity because only in this way can we be authentic Christians.”
After the Eucharist, a solemn academy was organized in the House of the Local Community.
