Apostolic Nuncio to BiH Archbishop Msgr. Luigi Pezzuto and the Minister of Security in BiH, Selmo Cikotić, on October 5th, opened the Social Animation Service for migrants staying in the Ušivak camp in Hadžići, for which the Holy Father donated money.
During the opening, nuncio Pezzuto pointed out that the Pope has a special feeling for those who are forced to leave their homelands and move towards countries that offer security and jobs.
Director of Caritas BiH Msgr. Tomo Knežević reminded that in his speeches, the Bishop of Rome often calls for responsibility towards people on the road, and emphasized that from the very beginning, the Church has been involved in helping migrants through Caritas.
The opening of the social service was also attended by the Head of the Mission of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in BiH Peter Van Der Auweraert and representatives of numerous organizations operating in that camp.
The regional coordinator of Italian Caritas for BiH and Serbia, Daniele Bombardi, informed those present that the entire structure could be dismantled and relocated should the location of the camp change.
The social corner in Ušivka was inspired by similar experiences in other camps for migrants along the Balkan route.
