For the seventh year in a row on Saturday before the Palm Sunday, the Way of the Cross of the Zenica parishes was organized. This year on April 13th, the host was parish of St. Elijah, and about 150 people participated in devotion.
Believers from all five Zenica’s parishes gathered in the suburban village of Podbriježje in the afternoon hours, from where they started the Way of the Cross that is about two kilometres long. Meditations and commemorative prayers with each station were led by priests from Zenica, and all the way between the stations gathered believers prayed the Rosary. Upon arrival to the local cemetery, Holy Mass was led by OFM Marko Kepić, parish priest of the parish of St. Elijah, with seven priests who concelebrated.

In the commemorative sermon, OFM Marko first reminded gathered believers that today is the 22nd anniversary of the arrival of St. John Paul II. to Sarajevo in 1997. He then said that the Way of the Cross through Podbriježje is the scene of procession that took place in Jerusalem when Jesus carried his cross from Pilate’s palace to Calvary.

It is worth mentioning that for seven years, parishes of Zenica, are organizing a joint Way of the Cross on the eve before Palm Sunday, each time on the territory of a different parish.
It can be said that the Catholic and Croatian people of Zenica have experienced a sort of a Way of the Cross of their own in the past 20 years. The indicator of this, is also the fact that from the pre-war more than 20,000 Croats Catholics, today, in the City of Steel there is about 6,000 of them and this number decreases every year. But, in spite of all the problems, there is still hope and confidence in God that this city will also have better times for both Catholics and other citizens.
