There is still no remorse for the murder of the friars

On the 77th anniversary of the murder of the Franciscans in Široki Brijeg, February 7th, the traditional program of the Day of the killed Franciscans of Herzegovina began with a prayer at the war shelter where 12 friars were killed, and then followed a Holy Mass led by the Provincial of the Herzegovina Franciscan province, OFM Miljenko Šteko.

About 40 priests concelebrated, among whom was the vice-postulator of the martyrdom procedure, OFM Leo Petrović, and 65 brothers, OFM Miljenko Stojić.

In his sermon, the Provincial, OFM Miljenko, reminded how partisans killed 12 friars near the war shelter and emphasized that the direct perpetrators of the crimes are not known. “We do not have a single statement from them, let alone apologies and remorse for the murders. On the contrary, the servants of these partisan criminals are still developing theories of justifying crimes”, said the provincial.

At the end of the Eucharist, Vice-Postulator OFM Miljenko briefly presented the work of the institution he heads.

Let us remind you that the program of remembrance of the killed Franciscans began on February 4th with a prayer on the Square of the Victims of Široki Brijeg, when wreaths were laid and candles were lit. For the next two days, Holy Masses were celebrated, the rosary was prayed and reflections were held. Prizes were also awarded in the competition for the best songs, stories and works of art on the theme of the killed Franciscans.
