Next to the memorial Osmica (Eight), erected in the Vitez in memory of the children killed in the war, on June 10th, a memorial Holy Mass was celebrated.
The Eucharist was led by Vitez's parish priest OFM Velimir Bavrka with the concelebration of the parish priest of Rankovići near Novi Travnik, Rev. Miljenko Džalto.
At the beginning, OFM Velimir pointed out that by coming to the Holy Mass, they show respect for the innocently killed children and reminded that there is no process of reconciliation without catharsis in the context of the Gospel parable about the truth that sets you free.
In an appropriate homily, he continued the same thread of thought by explaining the fact that forgetting creates a great tension between the past and the present. On the trail of that, he underlined that during 1993 and 1994, many people in the Vitez region perished because of other people's criminal ideals. He recalled the media inertness of the domestic and international media, which should have reported honestly and in a timely manner on this and similar crimes. He emphasized that the memory of the victims is not an incitement machine, but rather a preservation of dignity that believers should build.
The Eucharist was preceded by the laying of flowers and the lighting of candles organized by the relatives of the children who died, as well as the delegation of socio-political life.
Let us remind you that a grenade fired from the position of the BiH Army killed: Sanja Garić (1975), her brother Milan Garić (1981), Dragan Ramljak (1978), Dražen Čečura (1978), Boris Antičević (1983), Sanja Križanović (1978), Augustina Grebenar (1984) and her brother Velimir Grebenar (1981).
