On Sunday, September 15th, in the parish of Gornja Dubica, a votive Holy Mass was celebrated in honour of Mary of Seven Sorrows. Holy Mass in the Church of St. Joseph, filled with the faithful of the Dobor Deanery and Podvučjak, was led by OFM Bono Kovačević, parish priest of the parish of Bl. Aloysius Stepinac from Orašje.
Beside the parish priest of Dubica, OFM Jozo Puškarić, and the dean of the Dobor deanery and the parish priest in Odžak, venerable Jakov Filipović, nine other priests concelebrated.
In an effort to bring believers closer to the historical development of the worship of Our Lady of Sorrows, OFM Bono emphasized in his homily the closeness of Mary's experience of being God’s mother to every motherhood in the human race. He called on believers to dare to walk the Christian walk through life and to witness the power that was given to believers by the suffering and death of Christ on the cross, and which the Christ accepts in order to save every human being.
Finally, parish priest OFM Jozo thanked everyone who participated in the Vow Mass.
For years, parishioners of Gornja Dubica together with other believers in the Podvučjak region make vows to Our Lady of Sorrows in Gornja Dubica. This year, too, they prepared for this votive celebration with a triduum, led by OFM Anto Zrakić, parish priest in Potočani, venerable Filipović and OFM Blažan Lipovac, Vicar of Parish in Dubica.
