Way of the Cross with “the Calvary of Uzdol”

On the First Lent Sunday, on March 10th, after regular Sunday Masses in the parish of St. John the Baptist, believers did the traditional piety of the way of the Cross with “the Calvary of Uzdol”.

This people’s piety, out in the open, in the afternoon hours, was led by parish priest, rev. Ivo Tomić. Big wooden cross, from the first station, was carried by the parish priest, and then the “cross bearers” took turns – all the way to the tump Gradac.

Between the stations, the praying of rosary was led by the young people of the parish Uzdol who took care of the sound as well. The text of the hymn Stala plačuć tužna mati (Sad mother stoped and cried), was sung by some members of the parish choir.

The piety finished with singing of the song Došli smo ti, Majko draga (We came to you, dear Mother) and with taking pictures. There were 88 pilgrims who participated in this piety.

Let’s mention that the believers of Uzdol parish, traditionaly, together with their vows, during Lent, have a common vow where they bring to life Christ’s torments through common walk and praying with the Calvary of Uzdol. The stations of the Way of the Cross outside are marked with big stone crosses and are laid from village Kolakušići to the tump Gradac, that is, a beautiful viewpoint where there is a wooden votive chapel of St. Mother Theresa, and nearby there is an archaeological site. It is a vow that brings ease to the soul and life in the area of Uzdol that was wounded in the last war.
