In the monastery church of St. Vincent de Paul of the Sisters of Charity in Sarajevo, memorial day of Our Lady of Lourdes and 29th World Sick Day was celebrated on February 11th with a Holy Mass that was led by the retired Auxiliary Bishop of Vrhbosna, Msgr. Pero Sudar.
Three priests concelebrated, among whom was the Secretary of the BK BiH, Msgr. Ivo Tomašević. Sisters of Charity led by the Provincial Head of the Province of the Mother Divine - Sarajevo, sister M. Julijana Djaković, and about 20 lay people, including medical workers, also participated.
In his sermon, the bishop pointed out that the Church celebrates Our Lady of Lourdes in memory of the apparitions of Mary in France and then spoke about illnesses. “We know how a man can suffer in body and soul. The first; we call pain, and the second; suffering. As far as science knows, only man suffers”, said bishop Pero and pointed out to the longing for eternity which makes reality of suffering more tolerable. He also explained that it is a part of life and that one cannot enter eternity without temptation.
The Holy Mass celebration was animated by the choir of sisters.
In the end, bishop Sudar congratulated the Sisters of Charity on their 150 years of activity in BiH.
After the Eucharist, there was a modest gathering of those present in accordance to epidemiological measures.
