Cardinal Puljić led the Holy Mass for Pope Benedict XVI.

On the Feast of the Epiphany, January 6th, in the Papal Croatian Institute of St. Jerome in Rome, a solemn Eucharistic celebration was held and was led by Archbishop of Vrhbosna in peace cardinal Vinko Puljić, during which Benedict XVI was prayed for.

Together with him were the Archbishop of Zagreb cardinal Josip Bozanić, archbishop of Zadar, Msgr. Želimir Puljić, bishop of Požega, Msgr. Antun Škvorčević and several other priests.

At the beginning of the Holy Mass, the Rector of the Institute, rev. Marko Đurin congratulated cardinal Puljić, since he was ordained as a bishop on Epiphany 32 years ago in Rome.

In his sermon, Cardinal Vinko recalled that three events are celebrated on Epiphany: the visitation of the wise men, the baptism of Jesus in the Jordan and the first miracle in Cana of Galilee. Then he continued his reflection, mentioning the folk saying: "Dark fell on to my eyes!” and pointed out how this happens to a person when he loses the meaning of life. In this context, he cited the example of wise men who knew the signs of nature through which God speaks. He also wished that those present “take hold of God's word as it took hold of the great Pope Benedict, so he experienced and lived it so deeply and passed it on to us that we too can experience it, witness it and pass it on to future generations”.

At the end of the Holy Mass, rev. Đurin reminded the gathered that the prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, Cardinal Ratzinger on February 15th, 1998 in the church of St. Jerome led the Holy Mass celebration on the occasion of the celebration of Alojzije Stepinac day.
