An international symposium on the occasion of the 1600th anniversary of the death of St. Jerome was held on November 5th and 6th at the Catholic Theological Faculty (KBF) of the University of Sarajevo.
The symposium was opened on November 5th with introductory remarks by the Dean of the KBF, Dr. Darko Tomašević, who pointed out that the topic was current and demanding and said that the selection of lecturers guarantees presentations in a scientifically valid way.
The moderator was a professor at the Sarajevo KBF, Dr. Josip Knežević.
Introductory lecture The Word of God that precedes us. The Holy Scripture as the soul of theology was held by Dr. Hrvoje Kalem, professor of fundamental theology at the KBF in Sarajevo.
Because Dr. Ivan Bodrožić, a professor at the KBF in Split, could not be present due to the pandemic, he organized his presentation The ignorance of the Scriptures is the ignorance of Christ, through video link.
This was followed by a discussion and issues related to Scripture and tradition.
The symposium continued on November 6th, and the first lecture was given by Professor Dr. Predrag Dragutinović, a professor at the Orthodox Theological Faculty in Belgrade. On the topic of Lectio divina in Orthodox Tradition and modern biblical hermeneutics, he presented questions about the Holy Scriptures from Orthodox theology.
Presentation via video link The use of the Holy Scriptures for the sacred and fruitful performance of the priestly service was given by Dr. Ivan Čatić, a professor at the KBF in Đakovo.
The discussion and pause were followed by the last two lectures. Professor Emeritus Dr. Mato Zovkić spoke on the topic Translation of the Holy Scriptures: Pastoral or theological, in which he referred to traditional and modern translations of the Bible.
Dr. Dubravko Turalija, professor of Old Testament Scriptures at the Sarajevo KBF, spoke about the relationship between the Holy Scriptures and pre-council encyclicals in the lecture Three Great Pre-council Papal Encyclicals.
The symposium was made possible by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, and was held in accordance with the epidemiological measures of the Crisis Staff of the Sarajevo County.
