Kupres marked 26th anniversary of the liberation of the city on November 3rd with a Holy Mass, a triumphal procession and the unveiling of a memorial.
First, wreaths and lighted candles were laid in front of the parish church and at the memorial to the fallen members of the special police.
Afterwards, a Holy Mass of Remembrance was celebrated in the Church of the Holy Family, led by the Archbishop Coadjutor of Vrhbosna and the Apostolic Administrator of the Military Ordinariate in BiH, Msgr. Tomo Vukšić. Several priests concelebrated, among whom was the parish priest rev. Tomislav Mlakić.
In his homily, the Archbishop Coadjutor recalled that on November 1st and 2nd, the Catholic believers celebrated the Feast of All Saints and All Souls’ Day, which “reminds that God calls all people from all nations and at all times”.

“For us believers, these are days that remind us of the purpose of our lives. And even more, they teach what the purpose of our Christian faith is, and that is the resurrection (...) This is such an essential truth of Christianity that even the apostle Paul, against those who challenged it, wrote: ‘And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain (1 Cor. 15:17)’”, said the Archbishop and spoke about the monument that was erected on Kupres in honour of the deceased defenders. He emphasized that the monuments were “a consequence of our obligation to remember our defenders, but also proof of our awareness of it”.
After the Holy Mass in front of the church, Prayer for the dead was prayed for all those killed and wreaths were laid, and then a solemn victory parade was held through the city streets accompanied by the orchestra of the Armed Forces of BiH.
On this occasion, a newly built monument was blessed and unveiled in honour of Croatian war veterans and civilians killed in the Homeland War, World War II., victims of communist terror and all those who died throughout history for the freedom of the Croatian people of the Kupres plateau.
The memorial is a sculpture called Gratitude - the work of academic painter and sculptor Ante Mamuša. The names of the killed and missing veterans in the last war and the killed and missing civilian victims are written on the monument.
The monument was blessed by Msgr. Vukšić, and was unveiled by members of the families of the victims, dead and missing.
The celebration of the 26th anniversary of the liberation of Kupres was held under the sponsorship of the Croatian National Assembly, the Municipality of Kupres and the Kupres Homeland War Association.
