Archbishop Vukšić led the Holy Mass for the Homeland

The 22nd prayer day for the Homeland of the Vrhbosna Archdiocese and the 20th pilgrimage to Bobovac by Catholics from the Ministry of Defence, Armed Forces and Police Forces of BiH were held on Saturday, October 21st.

The Holy Mass celebration at the location of the royal city of Bobovac was led by the Metropolitan Archbishop of Vrhbosna and the Apostolic Administrator of the Military Ordinariate in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Msgr. Tomo Vukšić. 23 priests concelebrated, including vicars general: of Vrhbosna, Msgr. Slađan Ćosić, Military Ordinariate in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Msgr. Željko Čuturić, Military Ordinariate in the Republic of Croatia, Msgr. Marko Medo and Slovenian military vicar Msgr. Matej Jakopič.

A large number of believers participated, who completely filled the Bobovac plateau, reaching it in a prayer procession. Among those present were: the ambassador of the Republic of Croatia Ivan Sabolić with his wife, the military attachés of Croatia and Hungary and representatives of the political life of Croats in Bosnia and Herzegovina led by the president of the Croatian National Congress Dragan Čović.

Introducing the Holy Mass celebration, Archbishop Tomo emphasized that on Bobovac, first of all, "we pray for all our ancestors who have left this world, and with equal ardour we also pray for all the present people in Bosnia and Herzegovina, no matter what their name is or how they pray and worship God". "We pray for their happiness, for mutual harmony, for their mental and physical health and for any progress, for dialogue as the only way to resolve all issues, for lasting and just peace. We also pray for prudence and wisdom. We ask for patience", he encouraged.

Continuing the thought in the sermon, which was guided by the words of St. Augustine: "If you are silent, be silent out of love, if you speak, speak out of love", Msgr. Vukšić pointed out: "And while honest people, humane structures and just authorities agree with this wise teaching of the great Christian spiritual writer and philosopher, bishop and preacher, in the application of this wise teaching there have always been many people, structures and authorities who in their daily private and public thinking and action, unfortunately, they often behave in the opposite way." The archbishop reminded of Jean de La Bruyere, who said (a long time ago): "It is a real torment and trouble when a person does not have enough spirit in him to speak good, not smart enough to be silent."

He also said that it is necessary to learn from the great ones of the human spirit and the moral verticals of human society, and that it would be a general benefit if everyone listened to, accepted and applied the wise advice of such thinkers, among whom, many of the previously mentioned, St. Jacob recognized the need for harmony between wise speech and prudent silence. As a result, it is necessary, as Archbishop Tomo said, to repeat aloud the words of Jesus' apostle and Christian preacher on the roof of the Motherland: "Indeed, we all sin a lot. If someone does not make mistakes in his speech, he is a perfect man, able to control his whole body. If we put the reins in the horse's mouth to tame them, we also control their entire body. Here are the ships: they are so big and the strong winds drive them, and the insignificant rudder steers them where the helmsman's will wills. So is the tongue: it is a small member, but it can be proud of a large one" (James 3:2-5).

The Archbishop further warned that sometimes it is heard that abundance is a blessing, but scarcity is not, and pointed out that when the current situation in the Motherland is observed through the relationship between speech and silence, wise people will agree that the scarcity of difficult words would be real wealth and blessing, because their abundance is by no means that.

"And for the sake of the happiness of every child, their fathers and mothers, and for the sake of the happiness of all people in the Motherland, we pray that every person in it has enough spirit to speak well and enough intelligence to keep silent. Because it is truly true: 'If a person does not make mistakes in his speech, he is a perfect man, able to control his whole body.'" (James 3:2), concluded his sermon, Msgr. Vukšić.

The Holy Eucharist was animated by the church choir of St. Anthony of Padua from Žepče, under the direction of sister Jelena Lončar.

After the Holy Mass celebration, military beans were prepared for everyone by the Bukovica river, and those present stayed in a pleasant socialising.

By the way, the initiative for the Day of Prayer in Bobovac came from today's retired Archbishop of Vrhbosna, cardinal Puljić in commemoration of the death of the Bosnian queen Katarina Kosača on October 25th, 1478, with the aim of uniting in prayer for personal needs, for our own people and homeland Bosnia and Herzegovina, but also for all the people and nations that live in it.
