Dignified marking of 175th birthday of God's servant Stadler


On Wednesday, January 24th, in Sarajevo's Cathedral, sisters of the Society of Servants of Little Jesus, together with the sisters of the Friends of Little Jesus from Gromiljak, Lepenica and Kiseljak, marked the 175th birthday of the first Archbishop of Vrbosna and the founder of the Society of Servants of Little Jesus.

After the gathering of the pilgrims and the faithful the rosary was prayed, and then the mass celebration was led by rev. Jakov Kajinić, a spiritual leader in the Vrhbosna Seminary, concelebrated by several priests among whom was rev. Dr. Pavo Jurišić, Postulator in the Cause of the Servant of God Josip Stadler

The Mass celebration was attended by the Sisters Servants of Little Jesus and a large number of Friends of Little Jesus and young people from the parish of Gromiljak and Kiseljak, led by sisters of believers.

In his sermon, rev. Kajinić presented the character and work of Archbishop Stadler and a special connection with St. Francis of Sales, on whose feast he was born. He emphasized his occupation and love for the poor, which has always proved effective. In that spirit, he left the inheritance and his sisters Servants of Little Jesus to continue his work.

At the end of the Mass celebration everyone gathered at his grave where rev. Kajinić prayed for Stadler to be proclaimed blessed.

Then the Friends of Little Jesus performed a short presentation.

The Mass celebration was animated with singing of the choir of St. Elijah the Prophet from Kiseljak.

The Servant of God, Josip Stadler was born on January 24th, 1843. in Slavonski Brod, he was ordained for a priest in Rome in 1868., becoming the Archbishop of Vrhbosna on January 15th 1882., he died on December 8th 1918 in Sarajevo.

A diocesan procedure for proclaiming him blessed was initiated in Sarajevo in 2002. and was completed in 2008. In the same year, 2008., all the documents on the diocesan level were handed to the Congregation for the Causes of Saints in Rome.
