A joint session of bishops of Croatian bishop’s conference and Bishop’s conference of BiH was held on January 21st in Zagreb.
In that traditional annual meeting of the bishop’s conferences mutual themes are discussed: care for Croatians abroad, for Pontifical Croatian institute of st. Jerome in Rome, for translations and adjustments of liturgical books, and joint caritative actions like Solidarity week.
Reviewing joint sessions of the bishops, president of HBK, the archbishop of Zadar Želimir Puljić in a statement for Croatian Catholic radio said: “Although we are two bishop’s conferences in two countries, with these annual sessions we show kind of internal connection and need to gather at least once a year. But all our sessions are netted with representatives who participate at the sessions of bishop’s conferences in BiH and Croatia.”
President of BK BiH, cardinal Vinko Puljić finds very important the conversations of Croatian’s bishops about the believers abroad, because many that moved from Bosnia and Herzegovina to Croatia, now move away from there as well. He pointed out that it is important to build the conscience about identity and to encourage people to love their roots, country and religion. Not to abandon what they fought for. He emphasised that it is important “not to be burdened by a complex of less worthiness that is being pushed in public.”
Answering question of what can Croatia do for Croats in BiH today, cardinal Puljić said that Croatia as a member of EU should speak up so Europe can understand that BiH is a tripod and that forcing civil state is against the minority people.
In conversation for the Radio, cardinal Puljić talked about the political situation in BiH, bad for Croats. “It is important to give people the faith in God. For them to realise that all human is uncertain. We are tired of political games in public and tiring media messages. I hope that our joint sessions, from which we will send positive messages, encourage people to stay in hope”, commented cardinal Puljić
