On Mission Sunday, October 18th, in the parish of St. Joseph in Rankovići near Novi Travnik, at the location of Rije, a Holy Mass was celebrated for the killed Croatian soldiers and civilians in the Second World War.
First, Archbishop of Vrhbosna, cardinal Vinko Puljić, in the presence of the parish priest Rev. Miljenko Džalto, seven priests and members of the Croatian component of the BiH Armed Forces, blessed the memorial in the courtyard of the parish church. After that, the Archdeacon of Guča Gora, Msgr. Pavo Jurišić prayed the Way of the Cross all the way to Rije, where the Eucharist was celebrated.
In a mosaic sermon, the Archbishop of Vrhbosna first spoke about the memory of the victims killed by hatred, emphasizing that many places in BiH, Croatia and Slovenia hide the remains of thousands killed, and pointed out the importance of prayer for their souls. Since Mission Sunday was also celebrated on that day, he continued his sermon by saying that it is the obligation of Christians to convey the message of the Gospel and that every person is a missionary.
Towards the end of the Holy Mass, the Archbishop prayed a prayer for the dead and blessed the arranged burial place. On that occasion, the remains of six unidentified soldiers from the Karlovački konjički skok, who were killed at the Haramandić field in Travnik, and whose bones were found in 2002., were buried.
At the end, Marija Kvasina, a student of KŠC Petar Barbarić in Travnik, presented the Cardinal with a work of art, the work of Ante Mamuša.
