The Apostolic Nuncio in BiH Luigi Pezzuto visited the parish of Jablanica on February 24th at the invitation of parish priest rev. Marko Šutalo.
In the morning, archbishop Pezzuto arrived accompanied with the first counsellor of the Nunciature Msgr. Henryk Jagodziński. They were welcomed by the parish priest and the theologians of the Vrhbosna theology seminary and the Franciscan theology.
The Mass began with a solemn procession, and about 150 believers from Jablanica and surrounding parishes gathered as well parishioners who no longer live here. The liturgical singing was led by the theologians that were led by the local son Tomislav Rajič. At the beginning of the worship, the parish priest welcomed the nuncio, his first counsellor and all those present.

“Welcome to our small parish, Jablanica, who in 2017. celebrated 100 years of existence as an independent parish. In that period 17 parish priests were Franciscans and since 1999. there were four diocese’s priests. Each has contributed in its own way to the growth of this parish. Today, we want to upgrade only one small stone in the work of mosaic and worship for the flock, which is this rebuilt church and this Way of the Cross we have prepared for the blessing”, said rev. Marko.
Then the nuncio, in the rebuilt church, blessed new stations of the Way of the Cross (oil on canvas) painted by academic painter Mario Naletilić. Then, the Mass celebration continued, and the readings were read by the students of the Theological-Catechetical Institute from Mostar and the theologians from Sarajevo.
Relying on the Sunday Gospel, nuncio in his sermon emphasized that being a believer does not just mean to go to Mass and pray regularly, but that a believer is the one who fulfils Jesus' commandment of love to one's neighbour, which means being merciful and knowing to forgive his enemy.
At the end of the Mass celebration, Msgr. Pezzuto handed rev. Marko a bronze medallion of Pope Francis. Naletilić family gifted a picture to the nuncio and the theology student Tomislav Rajič on behalf of the parish gifted a monography of parish Jablanica that was edited by former parish priest rev. Mile Vidić on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Jablanica parish.
On this occasion, the parish priest thanked all the benefactors who helped rebuild the interior of the church and emphasized the importance of the connection between the Holy See and the Church in the Croatian people. “Thank and glory to God on this day and the gift of communion in faith. I thank also our Heavenly Mother Immaculate Virgin Mary who motherly accompanies us with her intercession. I believe that this day, too, has been gifted to us by her praying”, said rev. Marko.

He reminded that history records that the Church in Croatia and the Croatian people, from the very beginning, grew relations with the Roman Pope, and enjoyed the affection and received their blessings - like that of 879. when John VIII. “blessed Lord Branimir, all Croatian people and all its land”.
“And in the accompanying letter, the Pope urged him to ‘be persistent and faithful’, and he would have ‘God's protection and blessing of the apostolic champions Peter and Paul’. We felt exceptional closeness, understanding and protection of the Holy See during the recent homeland war, when in St. Peter's chair was St. John Paul II. This parish has had its ups and downs and joyful and less joyful moments through its burning century-old history. Through the historic winds and storms, with the life tides it bravely and victoriously resisted the tooth of time. The people of this region remained persistent and faithful despite all the persecution, and I believe they therefore feel the protection and blessings of God”, said the parish priest who thanked the Nuncio for visiting Jablanica and all donors.
After the Holy Mass, a meeting of nuncio and believers was organized at the churchyard where there was time to talk personally and meet with all the parishioners. The joint fraternal dinner in the parish hall was attended by TKIM students, theologians, nuns and parish priests from neighbouring parishes.
